Is There a Difference Between a Paintball Gun and a Paintball Marker?

If you have read anything related to a paintball gun article you have probably seen the term “paintball marker”. If you are confused about the differences between the two you really shouldn’t be because they are one in the same. It just depends on how you were brought up to think about what paintballing means.

The sport of paintballing has only been around for 25 years give or take a couple years, but the actual act of marking things with a paintball dates back to the 1950s when forest services used them to mark trees. Paintballs were even used to brand cows for labeling purposes. This is where the term paintball marker comes from.

It was not until the 1970s when two friends who wanted to recreate the act of surviving in war-like circumstances that we saw the dawn of paintballing. This is the where the idea for an actual paintball gun comes into play. Later a spokesperson for Sports Illustrated would play the game and write an article about this fascinating recreation of war and catapult it into the world of sports.

Little did they know then back in the 1980s the craze this would start and the obsession that would grip the sporting world with this new game of tactical strategy. If you are someone that looks back on paintballing to these times you probably think of a paintball gun as a paintball marker. Since it was in fact used to mark things long before it was ever incorporated into a game.

Paintballing has become so enormous that millions of people from all over the world are participating in the sport. Paintballing has even reached the level of professionalism and you will see tournaments and games on ESPN or other sporting networks.

The popularity of paintballing has grown far beyond what anyone could have ever imagined and if you have played it, you know how this has come so far as a sport. Playing the game itself is not hard but being efficient and effective is. It will take time and practice to gain any skill in the sport and because of this it stands alone in ways of tactical sports games.

Paintball marker or paintball gun they both mean the same thing. Paintball guns have gotten so sophisticated that we are seeing designs that make them almost as well made and efficient as a real gun. The time and energy that goes into paintballing is absolutely tremendous considering it has only been around for such a short period of time.
